The Walk, Better Together is about raising awareness that Australia’s community, economy and culture was and is strengthened by migrants and refugees, and highlights the importance of cultural diversity and inclusion, with a clear message that we are better together.
The Walk will see MRC Tasmania Chair, the Hon Peter Gutwein walk over 330 km from his hometown of Launceston to Launceston Airport, flying to Sydney Airport and then walking on to Canberra. This will occur between October 1 and 9, 2024.
BACKGROUND
In June 2024 the Hon Peter Gutwein Chair of MRC-Tas, concerned by increasing reports of racism in the community, decided to change the conversation and embarked on a 350 km walk across Tasmania to raise awareness of the economic and social importance of cultural diversity. Following The Walk Tasmanian Federal MPs and representatives from industry across Australia have encouraged Peter to take The Walk and its powerful message and platform to the national stage.
