The Toronto Action Group (TAG), formerly The Toronto Foreshore Protection Group, is a coalition of local community groups that emerged to champion a community focussed outcome for the Toronto foreshore, and continues to advocate in a positive manner for local issues on behalf of our community.
We need funds to continue to engage with the community via The Chronicle. The letter-boxed local newsletter will continue to update residents each month on local news, the projects of the Toronto Action Group, Toronto Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group and Coal point Progress Association including ‘Development Applications near You’, but the extra distribution beyond Coal Point- Carey Bay costs money, $120 per edition.
The Toronto Action Group was set up to preserve Toronto's public foreshore land as park for a growing population with a focus on Lake Macquarie City Councils plans for the Bath Street land. So what has happened?
With the now council-approved Toronto Foreshore Master Plan, wider issues are being revealed - parking, boating access and councils reluctance to progress with re-classifying the Bath Street land from Operational to Community, being key points of concern.
One of the big challenges is how residents can find out what is happening. Thanks to COVID, we now longer have the weekly Lakes Mail. ‘The Herald’ doesn’t give much attention to Lake Macquarie. Council has expanded its own media ‘spin’ machine but only tells us what it wants us to know and when.
We need funds to continue to communicate with the community via The Chronicle. The letter-boxed local newsletter will continue to update residents each month on local news, ibut the extra distribution beyond Coal Point costs money, $120 for each edition.
To support a local voice, consider also joining Toronto Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group who supports the production and distribution. If you run a local business, please consider a small monthly donation (with or without advertisement).
