The beautiful Whitsunday Catchment is located near the heart of the Great Barrier Reef and is home to the major industries of sugar cane, grazing and tourism as well as growing rural residential and urban populations. Since 1998, Whitsunday Catchment Landcare has sought to foster best land and water management practices and promote conservation and rehabilitation of local native flora for the enrichment of our environment and native animal habitat.
What Your Donation Could Do!
Your donation could support:
- rehabilitation of local bushland and riparian vegetation, to provide habitat for local fauna and improve water quality and aquatic habitat;
- our long-term works in protecting and rehabilitating some of Cape Gloucester's endanged Littoral Rainforest and Coastal Vine Thicket;
- volunteers to collect seed from and propagate local native plants such as the vulnerable Black Ironbox and our endemic Whitsunday Bottle Tree at our Community Nursery;
- community awareness and education events on topics such as native vegetation, water quality, weed identification and control, or which plants are better in cultivation in our landscape and those which are toxic to our endangered Proserpine Rock Wallaby;
- work with local school students to inform the next generation on our natural systems and provide training in plant propagation and nursery techniques;
- provide information to landowners and the community in general on local native species, weed identification and control and other land management issues to promote preservation of habitat through our catchment;
- conduct mainland marine debris collection trips to remove impediments to nesting turtles.
Your donation will help protect and enhance the natural values of the Whitsunday Region for future generations to appreciate this iconic landscape.
