As Jewish people, we continue to face trials and challenges. The past few months have been no different.
A key Jewish characteristic and value is our commitment to remember. The word zachor appears 169 times in the Torah; each Pesach, we don’t just recall but we retell the story of the exodus from Egypt; and since 1951, we have observed Yom Hashoah each year on the 27th of Nissan.
To enhance our community’s commemoration of the Holocaust, the JCCV Yom Hashoah Commemoration will return to Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University Clayton Campus this year. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 5 at 7:30pm.
This year, the Commemoration will focus on “We Are Here” the last line of Zog nit keyn mol – the Partisan Song. We are Here: the memory of those who perished, the legacy of those who survived, and the generations that have followed who are the custodians of their stories.
The coordination, management and delivery of a Yom Hashoah Commemoration is of great importance for the JCCV. This year we are focused on professionalising the commemoration, including hiring experienced creative consultants and stage managers. We are also working with a range of community-based experts to assist with historical narrative, communal engagement and operational requirements.
We invite you to please consider supporting this year’s JCCV Yom Hashoah.
